Dear Friends
Visitors to the Berakah Education Centre in Mamelodi, are welcomed by a transformed site! There is a new wooden jungle gym, the two open classrooms have windows and doors and the new classroom block is almost finished. This has all been made possible by grants from the Community Impact Trust (jungle gym and closing classrooms) and materials donated by Clotan Steel and Saint Gorbaine, and most of the work has been done by volunteer hands! It is a testimony of goodwill toward Berakah and we are truly thankful for the encouraging and energetic involvement of groups from AVIS, Hatfield Christian Church's Year of Your Life, the University of Pretoria's Community Engagement Department and several faculties, as well as individuals and groups that helped us during and after the World Cup. We have had a league of nations pouring sweat and popping blisters on the classrooms! May you all be BLESSED!
Volunteers
We need volunteers to help weekly with home-work and other general duties at the centre. We also need help with event planning and some more building, vegetable gardening etc. If you are able to help, please let us know. The work is not difficult and expert help will be on hand to show you what to do! The classrooms are prefabricated and panels need to be put up.
Fun Run
We will have a Fun Run for charity on the 11th of September 2010 from Berakah Education Centre to the Viva Village from 12h00 to 16h00. Two routes (5km and 10km) will be mapped out and runners/walkers are invited to join the children from both centres in this great event. Funds raised will be shared between the two charities and go toward education in the township and to assist granny- and child-headed households.
We need sponsors to sponsor the children from the centres for every kilometer they walk, we need new children's clothing to hand out to underprivileged children (we are giving each child an outfit including undies and socks with toothpaste/toothbrush and/or soap etc.)
Help with the event is also needed with the event. (Officials, catering etc.)
Books needed
We need books in local languages and our Early Learning consultant, Annette Swart, was kind enough to draw up a list of books and their prices. If anyone want to sponsor a book or two, please feel free to use the credit card donation facility and send an email to tell us which books you have donated. Or make a transfer to the bank account with Books as the reference. Pls likewise send us your name and which book/s you are sponsoring.
